Actress, songstress and American institution, Doris Day is one of the Icons of 20th Century America and this fantastic 2cd set is a shining example of just why she is such an important figure. The tracks here highlight different aspects of her long and varied career. Disc one focuses on her career from her earliest days as vocalist with Les Brown’s band. It was at this time that she enjoyed her first No. 1 million selling hit with the original “Sentimental Journey”. This song is now considered one of the most important of the War Years and was performed by Cliff Richard at the recent VE Day celebrations in London’s Trafalgar Square. The second disc covers the early years of her solo career and as testimony to her appeal and success she is joined by many of the worlds biggest stars on a number of duets, Frank Sinatra, Johnnie Ray and Frankie Laine to name but three. The booklet and photographs go to make up a great package for both fans and the curios alike.
