Before she was voicing Disney films and performing alongside Linda Ronstadt and Andy Gibb in the Pirates of Penzance, Caroline Peyton cut two beautiful jazz-folk LPs for Bloomington, Indiana’s BRBQ Records. Both were issued in limited quantities to near-universal shoulder shrugs. Sure, Rolling Stone called Intuiton a “near state of the art album by a pop female vocalist,” but that was hardly a ringing endorsement for the ravenous record buying public of 1977. Following compilation appearances on Ubiquity’s Gilles Peterson Digs America and Numero’s Ladies From The Canyon, Asterisk finally gives Caroline Peyton her due by re-mastering and expanding these seminal albums.
Issued in 1972, the ten-song album has been expanded to fourteen, including her three vocal cuts on the Screaming Gypsy Bandits In The Eye LP. Dug up in the process was a live performance at the Hummingbird Café in 1972 captured on film, which has been added as enhanced content on the CD. In addition to scores of unpublished photos, the booklet is jammed full of Edd Hurt’s detailed liner notes that document not only the making of Mock Up, but also the Bloomington, Indiana scene of the 1970s.
