Bill Wyman: Collector's Edition Box Set auf 5 CDs

Former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman is getting the box set treatment – not for his work with Mick Jagger and company, but rather for his recordings with his post-Stones band, The Rhythm Kings. Titled simply Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings: Collector’s Edition Box Set, the five-disc collection gathers four of the five studio albums Wyman and his band have released thus far, beginning with 1998’s Struttin’ Our Stuff and concluding with 2001’s Double Bill. The Rhythm Kings’ ever-shifting lineup has featured a trove of legendary figures, including Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor, Peter Frampton and, in some of their final recordings, George Harrison and Nicky Hopkins.

Wyman surprised the music world in the early ’90s, when he announced his departure from The World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band. “In ’91, the Stones had a big business meeting,” he said recently, in a prepared statement. “They were about to sign the contract with Virgin, and I said, ‘I won’t be doing that, ’cause I’m leaving.’ ‘No you’re not,’ they said. ‘You can’t leave.’ ‘Well, I am.’ Bless them, they didn’t believe me for two years; they left the door open until they were ready to go out on the ’94 tour. And in late ’93, Charlie [Watts] and Mick came ’round and said, ‘Is it definite? Have you left?’ I said, ‘I left two years ago.’” (gibson. com)
