Raven presents for the first time on one CD, two landmark albums by Grammy Award-winning blues master TAJ MAHAL – Oooh So Good’n Blues (1973) and Recycling The Blues & Other Related Stuff (1972). All Music Guide described Mahal as “One of the most prominent figures in late 20th century blues, the singer / multi-instrumentalist playing an enormous role in revitalizing and preserving traditional acoustic blues”. He first came to prominence in the mid-60s as a founding member of the legendary Rising Sons alongside Ry Cooder, before striking out on his own with a string of successful albums for Columbia. He continued to broaden his approach by taking in folk and roots music influences from around the world.
Oooh So Good’n Blues was one of his most consistently enjoyable albums and has never before been issued on CD. Highlights of this vibrant selection of tunes include covers of standards ‘Dust My Broom’, ‘Built for Comfort’ and ‘Railroad Bill’, plus his own ‘Little Red Hen’ and ‘Mama Don’t You Know’. For Recycling The Blues & Other Related Stuff Side 1 features laidback in-the-studio work with gospel inflected backing from the Pointer Sisters while Side 2 features a tremendously exciting concert experience that highlights the breadth of his remarkable blues and roots canvas. This CD comes complete with superb audio quality and detailed liner notes. (ravenrecords. com. au)
