Als Erfinder des “Power Chord” kann man Link Wrays Einfluss auf unzählige Rock Gitarristen gar
nicht hoch genug einschätzen. Mit seinem 1958er Instrumental Hit "Rumble" hat Link Wray den Weg
für Heavy Metal und Punk geebnet. "Rumble" stieg bis auf Platz 16 der Billboard Hot 100!
Basierend auf dem Sound verzerrter Gitarren früher Blues Alben, hat er mit Akkorden gearbeitet.
Das Rolling Stone Magazin wählte Link Wray auf Platz 45 der 100 besten Gitarristen aller Zeiten.
“Rumble & Roll” wurde 1969 aufgenommen und hieß ursprünglich “Listen to the Voices That Want to Be Free”. Das Album war für das Polydor Label bestimmt, erschien dann aber 1970 auf Jimmy Velvets Music City Label in Nashville und später als kanadische Version. Bis heute erschien das Album nie auf CD.
Besides Wray’s habitual rhythm section, “Rumble & Roll” features Joey Welz – who began his career as featured pianist with Bill Haley & The Comets back in the 50s – on vocals and keyboards.
