Blu-Rays can therefore store movies with significantly better resolution and offer enormously high picture quality on corresponding screens. Blu-Ray players are usually backward compatible with DVDs, so that they can also be played.

Lange schon warten die Fans ungeduldig auf den ersten Teil von NEIL YOUNGs Archive-Serie, jetzt ist das definitive Erscheinungsdatum bestätigt: Archives Volume 1 1963-1972 wird in Deutschland am 29. Mai 2009 veröffentlicht und in drei Formaten erhältlich sein: Als Blu-Ray, als DVD und als CD, jeweils in bestmöglicher, authentischer Soundqualität, auf die YOUNG stets größten Wert legt. So bietet die Blu-Ray-Version eine interaktive Plattform im neuesten technischen Standard, mit Musik, Videos und Text, und bietet zudem die Möglichkeit, über das Internet ergänzt zu werden. Archives wird einen Meilenstein für die Form setzen, in der Musik präsentiert werden kann. Seit Jahren schon ist die ARCHIVE-Serie das bestimmende Thema unter den NEIL YOUNG -Fans, und zum Teil ist die Verzögerung, mit der das Werk erscheint, der Tatsache zuzuschreiben, dass die Technologie, die nötig ist, um YOUNGs Vorstellungen umzusetzen, erst erfunden werden musste. Jetzt aber ist es soweit und es gibt einen Ausblick darauf, was Musik in Zukunft werden könnte. Jim DeRogatis der Chicago Sun-Times hatte die Gelegenheit, die Archives bei der South X Southwest-Konferenz zu hören und zu sehen, und schrieb: „Es ist nicht nur überwältigend, es ist möglicherweise ein Vorreiter für das, was sowohl in Indie-Geschäften wie auch in den großen Ketten in der Post-CD-Ära verkauft werden wird.“ Greg Kot vom Chicago Tribune urteilte: The Archives sind nichts weniger als revolutionär in Bezug darauf, wie der Back-Katalog eines Künstlers zukünftig präsentiert werden wird.“ NEIL YOUNG Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972 wird in drei unterschiedlichen Formaten veröffentlicht werden. Das Ultra-Deluxe-Blu-Ray-Set enthält zehn Discs, die die gesamte erste Dekade von YOUNGs Schaffen repräsentieren, beginnend mit seiner ersten High-School-Band The Squires bis zu seinem bisher unveröffentlichten Film „Journey Through The Past“. Zu dieser ersten Phase gehören einige bisher unveröffentlichte Songs, Outtakes und Live-Mitschnitte von Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young und Crazy Horse. Die Audio-Auflösung beträgt 24-bit / 192 kHz Stereo PCM in Master-Qualität. Die DVD-Edition enthält ebenfalls 10 Discs in 24-bit / 95kHz PCM High-Resolution-Qualität. Die CD-Edition besteht aus acht Discs in Standard-16-bit / 44 kHz Stereo PCM-Qualität. Weiterhin ermöglicht eine interaktive Timeline, das gesamte Leben YOUNGs Schritt für Schritt zu verfolgen und bietet zusätzlich bislang unveröffentlichte Memorabilia, handschriftliche Lyrics, Briefe und weitere historische Dokumente. Keine andere Kollektion hat bisher einen solch detaillierten und umfassenden Blick auf die Entwicklung eines Künstlers gestattet, sowohl in Bezug auf seine Musik als auch auf alle weiteren Ereignisse, die ihn und seine Songs prägten. Insgesamt eine bahnbrechende Audio-Biographie über NEIL YOUNG. Die Blu-Ray und DVD-Editions erscheinen in einer stabilen Box, die ein 236-seitiges, farbiges und gebundenes Booklet enthält, das mit zusätzlichem Archiv-Material ausgerüstet ist, etwa Tape-Verzeichnisse und genaue Beschreibungen von Musik und Artwork, ein Poster, Einzelhüllen für alle 10 Discs und mehr. Die CD-Edition wird in einer Box mit allen acht einzeln verpackten Discs und einem erklärenden Booklet ausgeliefert. Die NEIL YOUNG Archives bildet eine fortlaufende Serie, welche die gesamte Karriere eines der kreativsten und über die Jahre erfolgreichsten Künstler der Rockmusik begleiten wird. Das Verfahren ist bisher einzigartig, und weitere technische Entwicklungen werden zweifellos Eingang in die folgenden Archive-Teile finden. Es bildet das technische Herz und die musikalische Seele all dessen, was NEIL YOUNG bisher geschaffen hat.
