Boston, Massachusetts Morne formed in 2005 by Milosz Gassan (ex-Filth Of Mankind) a musician who has become an urban legend of sorts within Polands underground crust movement. After an initial demo created in 2008 and a split release with Warprayer, Morne would release their debut full-length album Untold Wait in 2009 to critical praise in the underground. Said album would even gain more awareness when both Fenriz and Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone praised and endorsed Mornes style of apocalyptic epic sludge / crust (that has been comparable to the likes of early Neurosis and Isis) as Morne themselves would even become endorsed on the cover to the last Darkthrone album Circle The Wagons where Mornes logo found its way on Darkthrones mascots leather jacket. It also helped Mornes reputation that they also had members in their lineup that have been involved in such bands as Grief (guitarist Jeff Hayward), Alabama Thunderpussy, The Mighty Nimbus, Birds Of Prey etc. (ex-drummer Erik Larson). Nonetheless, Mornes style of post-sludge / crust is an interesting interpretation of everything that tends to fall within such a genre. While references to bands such as Neurosis and Isis are easy to pinpoint, Morne create their cinematic and epic vibe through unrelenting heaviness that is culminated from influences such as traditional heavy metal, doom metal, and classic rock, and create such an immense atmosphere also through influences such as classic 70s prog, neoclassical chamber music, and classic post-punk / new wave (i. e. Joy Division, early Cure). All this culminates in Mornes new album Asylum, a grandiose journey through a very moving, haunting, and emotionally charged album (that climaxes with the gut-wrenching track Volition, featuring Jarboe and Kris Force of Amber Asylum) where monolithic heaviness and earth crumbling ambience help to create what will be seen as a triumph within the realm of post-metal.
