"Elsewhere, always everywhere, Trucks and his band deliver an impressive performance, which defies its inherent and instinctual inclination to lean back, conjure the blues, and riff away. Instead, you can feel the band leaning forward on these tracks, swallowing Chicago, the Deep South, New Orleans, and Africa whole, and delivering their own version of what it feels like to be an American in 2010 still playing the blues, and finding a new, incendiary way to communicate its raw, energetic spirit." "This live recording captures the band fresh from the studio with increased energy and fluidness complete with Trucks’ staggering solos and New Orleans style horn section. Roadsongs captures some of the best of Trucks’ bluesy slide work such as the incendiary covers of "Key to the Highway": and Dylan’s "Down in the Flood" that rival the originals with their intensity and freshness." "The music goes from freeform jazz, to traditional jazz to rock to blues and anywhere else the band decides to go. The end result is part Coltrane, part Grateful Dead and part Allman Brothers, resulting in a delicious Derek Trucks Band stew. If you love virtuoso guitar playing and master level slide soloing then this one is a must-own for you." (classicrockrevisited. com)
"Brewing up a gumbo of electric blues, funk and soul, the DTB dig into grooves within grooves to summon new layers of substance and many a potent moment. A wickedly churlish cover of "Down In The Flood" is an immediate standout, with 31-year-old Derek Trucks maintaining a feral presence on the slide guitar. His abilities on the ax are breathtaking and here he consistently shines, but just as commendable is how he doesn't overshadow the other individuals on stage. Indeed, the DTB comes across like a band in the most authentic, one-for-all sense, with everyone playing for the benefit of the music rather than for that of any one musician." (seattlepi. com)
