Fast 40 Jahre nach seinem Entstehen bergen Rzewskis Variationen zu Sergio Ortegas »El Pueblo Unido Jamas Sera Vencio«, geschrieben inmitten der Wirren um den Putsch Pinochets gegen den damaligen chilenischen Präsidenten Salvador Allende, auch ein politisches Statement unserer Tage. Seitdem wurde das Stück zur Hymne gegen politische Unterdrückung und Symbol für Widerstand. Ironie des Schicksals: Justament, ein Lied, das ein Regime unterstützte, welches gerade mit Hilfe des CIA gestürzt wurde, diente als Vorlage für ein Werk, das bei der 200-Jahr-Feier der USA uraufgeführt wurde. Johann Sebastian Bach komponierte nur zwei Variationswerke für Tasteninstrumente, die »Goldberg-Variationen« und das viel früher entstandene Werk »Aria Variata alla Maniera Italiana« a-Moll, um etwa 1709. So war Bach bereits als Mittzwanziger ein Meister auf den Tasteninstrumenten seiner Zeit.
