Zwischen 1899 und 1904 wandte sich Paul Lacombe, der hautsächlich für Orchester oder Soloklavier schrieb, erneut der Kammermusik zu, wobei die Werke der vorliegenden Aufnahme entstanden.

Die Kompositionen jener Zeit suggerieren die Atmosphäre des mediterranen Frankreichs, ohne jedoch reine Landschaftsmalerei zu sein. Lacombe verbrachte den größten Teil des Lebens in seiner Geburtsstadt Carcassonne weit weg von Paris. Seine Sprache erinnert an Saint-Saëns und Fauré: klassisch proportionierte Formen, raffinierte Melodien und ein sicheres Gefühl für Tonalität.
