SACD (Super Audio CD)
The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

Der Star dieser Einspielung ist – Herr Lindberg möge verzeihen – nicht der Interpret, sondern das Instrument: Jakob Lindberg spielt auf der wohl ältesten noch spielbaren Laute der Welt. Sixtus Rauwolf baute das Instrument in Augsburg um 1590. Und er trägt Musik aus der Entstehungszeit des Instruments vor. Musik aus der Zeit englischer Hochkultur, der Zeit Heinrichs VIII. und seiner Tochter Elizabeth I. Beide spielten selbst Laute, und Elizabeth beschäftigte nicht weniger als fünf Lautenisten an ihrem Hof. Als ihr 1603 James I. nachfolgte, stellte der auch noch John Dowland als Hoflautenisten ein. Dieser Enthusiasmus des königlichen Hofs (und des englischen Adels) führte zu einer spezifisch englischen Lautenmusik, die in reichem Repertoire überliefert ist. Lindberg hat daraus nicht nur Musik der „üblichen Verdächtigen“ ausgewählt, sondern auch Stücke von so schillernden und rätselhaften Figuren wie Daniel Bacheler und Cuthbert Hely.
